Law enforcement agencies have identified the motorcycle used in the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, a key leader of the July Movement and spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha. The motorcycle’s owner, Abdul Hannan, was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from the Mohammadpur area of the capital on Sunday morning.

Later, Abdul Hannan was handed over to Paltan Police Station. Police said the registration number of the motorcycle used in the attack is 54-6375.

Following the shooting incident targeting Sharif Osman Hadi, law enforcement agencies have intensified their investigation. Intelligence sources said CCTV footage is being analyzed and information is being collected from multiple sources to identify those involved. Throughout Saturday, police and intelligence agencies carried out extensive field-level operations.

According to investigation-related sources, authorities are also examining the possibility that an organized group may be behind the attack with the intention of creating instability ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary elections scheduled for February. Since the incident, concerns over security have grown among individuals associated with the July Movement, potential candidates, and political leaders.

Law enforcement officials said some members of a banned organization may be involved in the attack, and several individuals have been placed under surveillance based on this suspicion. Investigation sources also said that a person named Faisal Karim Masud has been identified through CCTV footage. However, as of Sunday night, no one directly involved in the shooting had been arrested.

Meanwhile, alert notices have been issued to immigration authorities at all airports across the country to prevent suspects from leaving Bangladesh. Surveillance along border areas has also been strengthened.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police stated that the attack may have been carried out to spread fear among individuals and groups associated with the July 2024 movement, and this angle is being given priority in the investigation. Plans are also underway to increase surveillance and intelligence activities across Dhaka and the rest of the country to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Notably, the shooting took place at around 2:25 pm last Friday in the Bijoynagar Box Culvert Road area of the capital. Even 24 hours after the incident, no case had been filed. Sub-Inspector (SI) Rakibul Hasan of Paltan Police Station said the process of filing a case is currently underway.
