Major General Kaisar Rashid Chowdhury Appointed as New Director General of DGFI

Major General Kaisar Rashid Chowdhury has officially assumed charge as the new Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). A review of his long and distinguished military career makes it evident that he is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant, sharp-minded, and highly competent officers of the Bangladesh Army. Through extensive training, experience, and professional excellence at both national and international levels, he has earned the confidence to lead one of the country’s most sensitive and vital intelligence agencies.

Major General Chowdhury was commissioned from the 29th Long Course of the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) as the Second Best Cadet. Over time, due to consistent professional excellence and achievements, he has established himself as one of the top officers of his course. According to his peers, he never lagged behind in any phase of military training. He completed prestigious staff courses twice-once in Bangladesh and once in the United Kingdom. In addition, he successfully completed the Artillery Basic Course in Turkey and the Gunnery Staff Course in Pakistan, further enriching his international training portfolio.

Throughout his long service, Major General Chowdhury has performed with distinction in a number of key and challenging appointments. While serving as Brigade Major (BM) of an Artillery Brigade in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, he demonstrated exceptional operational insight and administrative capability. He also served for more than three years at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) as a Directing Staff and Chief Instructor, playing a vital role in shaping future military leaders. His professionalism was further evident during his three consecutive tenures as an instructor at the School of Artillery.

On the international stage, he made notable contributions to enhancing Bangladesh’s image. In 2019, he joined the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ), where his dedicated efforts and strategic initiatives helped Bangladesh further strengthen its position as the world’s leading troop-contributing country to UN peacekeeping missions. Throughout his tenure, Bangladesh successfully maintained this top position. He also played a key role in creating new deployment opportunities for various Bangladeshi security forces in peacekeeping missions. Due to his competence, dedication, and hard work, he earned the trust and recognition of the Military Adviser (MILAD) to the UN Secretary-General.

Colleagues often recall his humane and inspiring personality. One former army officer shared that Kaisar Rashid Chowdhury was his first-term corporal at BMA, from whom he learned everything-from wearing boots properly to rendering his very first salute. Fellow officers agree that he has proven his leadership and efficiency in training, operations, and administration alike. They have expressed gratitude to the authorities for entrusting such a capable and meritorious officer with the leadership of DGFI.

The illustrious career and professional achievements of Major General Kaisar Rashid Chowdhury clearly demonstrate that merit, experience, and professionalism were the key factors behind his appointment as Director General of DGFI. Observers expect that this timely decision will play a positive and effective role in strengthening the country’s security and intelligence operations.
