Renowned West Bengal singer Nachiketa Chakraborty was rushed to a private hospital in Kolkata late Saturday night after suffering sudden cardiac complications, according to regional media reports.
The 61-year-old artist, who had been touring extensively and performing at multiple concerts in recent days, complained of severe chest discomfort on Saturday. His family immediately took him to the hospital, where he was admitted around 2:00 am. Doctors identified a cardiac issue and inserted two stents to stabilise his condition. Hospital authorities later confirmed that he is currently in stable condition.
Speaking to reporters, his daughter, Dhansiri Chakraborty, said her father’s health had improved significantly following the emergency intervention. “He was active and performing regularly,” she said. “When he suddenly became unwell, we didn’t waste a moment in getting him to the hospital. The timely treatment prevented the situation from worsening. He is doing much better now.”
Close associates of the singer said Nachiketa had no known history of heart disease, though he does manage certain chronic health issues and follows a controlled diet. They suggested that the recent stretch of back-to-back performances may have added extra physical strain.
Due to his sudden hospitalisation, Nachiketa’s scheduled concert in Asansol on Sunday was cancelled. Organisers have also postponed several upcoming shows to allow him time to recover fully.
A beloved figure in Bengali music, Nachiketa rose to fame in the 1990s and continues to be a leading voice in the region’s cultural landscape. Since the news of his illness surfaced, fans, fellow artists, and well-wishers have flooded social media with messages of support and prayers for his recovery.
Event organisers have urged ticket holders to follow official updates and requested the public to respect the family’s privacy as the veteran singer recuperates.
