A strong 6.7 magnitude earthquake has struck northeast Japan, prompting a tsunami warning, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported. The earthquake occurred on Friday at 11:44 a.m. local time.
According to Al Jazeera, just a few days earlier, the same region experienced a more powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake, which injured at least 30 people and caused power outages affecting over 2,000 homes.
The epicenter of Friday’s earthquake was 50 kilometers beneath the seabed, approximately 80 kilometers off the coast of Aomori Prefecture on Japan’s northern island of Honshu. Due to the earthquake’s underwater origin, a tsunami warning was initially issued but later lifted by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
