BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that conspiracies against the country have not stopped and may even worsen, urging party leaders and activists not to give in to fear or panic.
He made the remarks on Saturday while addressing a workshop titled “Plan to Build the Nation”, organized by the BNP at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in Farmgate, Dhaka. Tarique Rahman joined the event virtually from London as the chief guest. Grassroots BNP leaders participated in the seventh day of the ongoing workshop series.
Addressing party members, he said he had earlier warned that holding an election would not be easy and that conspiracies were continuing. “Recent incidents, including Friday’s events and the shooting of our candidate in Chattogram, are proving that what I said is gradually coming true,” he said. He warned that if internal differences are not reduced and unity is not strengthened, the country could face destruction.
Tarique Rahman emphasized the need to boost public confidence and unify democratic-minded citizens. “The more united we are and the more we move forward, the more inevitable the election will become. As we create this environment, the conspirators will be forced to retreat,” he said, claiming that only the BNP has the strength and capacity to push back such conspirators.
Recalling BNP’s past role, he said the party has repeatedly rescued the country from the brink of destruction—sometimes under the leadership of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman and at other times under former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
Referring to shootings targeting BNP candidates in Chattogram and Dhaka, he said attempts were being made by some quarters to take advantage of these incidents.
Tarique Rahman also outlined BNP’s plans on issues such as canal excavation, health cards, farmer cards, family cards, education reform, unemployment, information technology, and preventing air and water pollution, along with their implementation strategies.
He urged leaders and activists to move beyond personal gain and focus on service to the nation. “If you work for the country and the people today, your children and future generations will live better tomorrow,” he said, calling for the establishment of peace, discipline, and the rule of law.
Concluding his speech, Tarique Rahman said there is no more time to remain idle at home. “We must win this struggle, and our greatest ally is the people of Bangladesh. With the people, we must win this battle—there is no alternative,” he said, adding, “We will meet on the battlefield of struggle and in the electoral arena.”
