Chhatra Dal Leader Arrested in Tejgaon College Student Murder Case

Shahriar Sarkar Rifat, convening member of a Chhatra Dal branch, has been arrested in connection with the murder of higher secondary student Sakibul Hasan Rana at Tejgaon College in Dhaka.
The arrest was confirmed by Monirul Islam Monir, Officer-in-Charge of Shere Bangla Nagar Police Station, to the media on Saturday (December 13) at 4:00 pm.
A special operation was conducted by Shere Bangla Nagar Police on Friday night (December 12), during which Rifat, identified through CCTV footage from the Tejgaon College hostel, was apprehended.
Rifat is originally from Nilphamari district and is a postgraduate student in the Physics Department of Tejgaon College.
On the night of December 6, a series of clashes broke out between two Chhatra Dal factions over drug use and control at the Tejgaon College hostel. Three students were seriously injured and admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Sakibul Hasan Rana succumbed to his injuries after four days in the ICU.
