In Mohammadpur, Dhaka, a housemaid, Ayesha, has been placed on six-day remand by the court in connection with the murder of a mother and her daughter on Shahjahan Road. Her husband, Rabbi, was granted a three-day remand in the same case.
The order was issued on Wednesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam when the accused couple appeared in court.
The victims, Layla Afroz and her daughter Nafisa Lawal Binte Aziz, a ninth-grade student, were fatally stabbed on Monday morning. Ayesha and her husband were arrested by police from Jhalokathi the following day.
According to police, Ayesha killed the mother and daughter after being caught stealing money. During preliminary interrogation, she admitted that she had joined the household with the intention of theft and, upon being caught, stabbed both victims with two knives.
Investigators reported that Ayesha brought one knife with her and took another from the kitchen. During a struggle, she repeatedly stabbed Layla Afroz with a switchgear. When Nafisa intervened, she was also stabbed. Both victims succumbed to excessive blood loss.
Layla Afroz’s husband, A.Z.M. Azizul Islam, an English-medium school teacher, filed the case against Ayesha following the incident.
