A mild cold wave has been sweeping across Panchagarh for the past four consecutive days, with temperatures dropping to around 9 degrees Celsius, intensifying the winter chill in the region.
Due to icy winds blowing from the northwest and biting cold conditions, temperatures have been fluctuating between 9 and 10 degrees Celsius. As a result, Panchagarh has frequently been recording the lowest temperature in the country in recent days. Dense fog combined with cold winds has disrupted normal life, while the suffering of daily wage earners has increased significantly.
On Sunday (December 14), the Tetulia Meteorological Office recorded the day’s lowest temperature at 9 degrees Celsius at 9:00 am. At that time, the humidity level in the air was 77 percent.
The information was confirmed by Jitendranath Roy, Acting Officer-in-Charge of the Tetulia First-Class Meteorological Observatory.
According to the district administration, winter sets in earlier in Panchagarh compared to other parts of the country. For this reason, the distribution of winter clothing has already begun at the onset of the season. Using government funds amounting to Tk 3 million, a total of 8,640 blankets have already been purchased and distributed. Authorities have also communicated the need for additional winter clothing.
Jitendranath Roy further said that one or two more cold waves may sweep over the region around the middle of this month.
