Allegations have been raised of a brazen attack, vandalism, and large-scale looting at the office of Theme Real Estate Limited located in the Gorhanga area of Rajshahi city. In connection with the incident, company official Md. Rakib Ali has filed a General Diary (GD) at Boalia Police Station, naming two individuals.
The GD names Abdul Awal and Suman Mia as the accused.
According to the GD and eyewitness accounts, on January 5 at around 12:00 noon, Abdul Awal and Suman Mia forcibly entered the Theme Real Estate Limited office along with a group of armed criminals. Identifying themselves as “terrorists,” they intimidated the office staff and held officials and employees hostage at gunpoint.
The complaint states that the attackers deliberately vandalized office furniture and looted important documents, bank cheques, accounting papers, and approximately BDT 140,000 in cash. They also broke open office lockers and took away valuable items.
The GD further mentions that the attackers threatened to take over the office and warned the owners and employees of death if they attempted to continue office operations in the future. Following the incident, officials and employees of the company have been living in extreme insecurity.
Md. Rakib Ali said that although locals were informed immediately after the incident, the situation could not be brought under control due to the dominance of the attackers. Because of the security threat, normal office operations have come to a complete halt. He expressed concern that if legal action is not taken promptly, a major act of violence could occur.
An official of Theme Real Estate Limited, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that the attack was carried out under the shelter and leadership of Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP Organizing Secretary Rabiul Islam Milu. He claimed that Abdul Awal and Suman Sorkar—who were dismissed from the company last month—along with several others including Jakir of the sixth floor, carried out the attack in a terrorist manner.
The official further alleged that during the attack, all mobile phones of those present in the office were forcibly taken and reset to prevent outside communication. Everyone was then forced out of the office, and all keys were taken away. Important documents were removed from the vault, and computers were used to forge the Managing Director’s signature to send letters on Theme Real Estate Ltd.’s letterhead to shop owners.
The letters reportedly requested shop owners to come to the office to deposit money due to “account issues,” which the official claimed was a planned attempt to loot money.
He also alleged that BNP leader Rabiul Islam Milu was aware of the incident and facilitated the attackers’ access to the office. According to him, an organized group is deliberately trying to shut down the office.
Multiple attempts were made to contact the accused Rabiul Islam Milu, Abdul Awal, and Suman for comments, but none of them answered their phones.
Regarding the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalia Police Station, Rabiul Islam, said that the victim had filed an online General Diary. He advised submitting a written complaint at the police station to file a case. He added that legal action would be taken if the allegations are found to be true after investigation based on the GD.
Meanwhile, local residents alleged that since August 5 last year, this criminal group has been involved in extortion, illegal occupation, embezzlement, and other criminal activities by creating mobs at various offices. Victims and locals have demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and exemplary punishment.
